Thx for your answer. It is a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502.
I don't think it has to deal with DVD+R or -R drives : the DVD movie industry would have to fear if their DVD could only be read by half of the drives, don't you think?

I changed my area code to 2 (I live in France) for a french edition of the DVD movie (The thin red line). I re-checked it, and both the DVD and my player are on region code 2.

My drive acts as if the DVD was protected (macrovision or something else), and my player refused to play it because of this protection. Do I have any way to see which protections are on a DVD and if my drive can read this kind of DVD?

hi ZeBen

As u have not mention the DVD drive details, my advise would be to chk the +/- series. Usally u cannot play DVD+R in DVD-R drive and viceversa. If u r getting a region code error then try to change the region code to US 01.

Get DVDIdle.  Try it free for a month.  It sells for $19.95.  It solves problems with analog copyright encrypted DVD's.  The Dell patch works too,  but  this program also puts DVD info. on the hard drive so the DVD drive turns only occassionaly during the movie.  It saves the drive and increases performance of DVD movies.  Tech support is usually pretty lame on issues.
