You may want to first try running the hard drive diagnostics to see if any problems are detected with the drive itself. I don’t know what type of system you have but on most of the newer Dimension system you can press CTRL + ALT + D at the bootup splash screen to start the hard drive Diagnostics. This may help isolate if the hard drive is failing.
If the hard drive diagnostics fail, I would advise contacting Dell Technical Support with details concerning your problem and the diagnostic results for further help.
