DVD Burner

Question

I have a Dimension 4600, with both DVD-Rom and DVD-RW drives.  I have been trying to copy a DVD and everytime I do so, my computer keeps instructing me to insert a blank DVD, however I have blank DVD-R discs in the drive.  Why is this asking me this?  You can use DVD-R or DVD-RW right?  I have SonicRecord Now software and it seemed simply to only have to put the DVD in the DVD-Rom drive and the blank one in the DVD-RW drive, but this isn't working, why?

If your computer arrived with the DVD burner installed, then
it is a DVD+ burner and will not write to DVD- media. Try
using DVD+R or DVD+RW discs.
