I have a GX60 with SW-25s driver. I don't have the disappearing problem but win2k doesn't recognizes it as a cd burner. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution? R902 didn't fix it.
Hello, I work for a doctors practice as an IT Admin and after setting up 5 new dells we just recieved last week, one of the girls called me saying the CDROM was gone. She restarted and then it came back. I check the other 4 and all were doing the same thing. So searched Dell and came across this thread, checked the Firmware and noticed I have the 901 version. I'm going to apply the update to 3 of the 5 dells. Then I'll restart all 5 before I leave and monday morning check the results! Hopefully the 3 I apply the update to will still be there, and the other 2 wont! Then I'll update those as well!
Thanks for replying to this thread so many times and posting your results after each unsuccessful attempt! This saved me a lot of time trying to figure out the problem!
Many thanks for your answer, but I can not find my second drive, I mean, This unit (my CDRW) disappearing completily, insade of my PC I just have the unit D (CDROM), and no more, have I install THE CDRW again?, and Dell didn´t send me a copy of the CD of my RW unit.. what can I do??

Actually just reboot your machine and the drive will come back... what would happen with ours is the drive would be listed but then would disconnect itself... if the drive is not comming up on initial boot then you probably have a problem other then a Firmware issue.

we are still chaning the drives, but DELL in Germany is kind of stupid.
They are sending us Samsung SW-252s to change:
It`s very intelligent to chanke non-working drives against other non-working drives.
We won`t buy any DELL PCs anymore!
