Windows 10 Upgrade - why isnt Dell Vostro 3550 on the list from Dell ?

I found this list on the Dell site that tells you whether they have tested a particular model for its ability to be upgraded to Windows 10.   The Dell Vostro 3550 is not on the list of about 20 Vostro models, some with lower model numbers ,  some higher.   Will they ever test it??

If you try to upgrade,  windows 10 copies files and then in the 2nd of the three major sections of the upgrade (where you have that big circle in the middle of the screen)  it just goes to a blank screen and then all disk activity ceases and it becomes well hung.   Of course now, the machine thinks its os is win 10 and you cannot go back to a win 7 recover point .  So you just lose all your data and apps and restore the factory image and then install 208 windows 7 updates and it takes like 8 hours in all.

Sounds like a similar problem that people had with Vostros going from win 7 to win 8.   Why not fix it.

You legend Clive, you have saved me hours of headache. The BIOS update is the key.

I don't know why it doesn't works for you. It worked for me fine. I have a low end Dell Vostro 3550 i5 . Which came with Windows 7 Professional. Please make sure your Windows is activated.

100% supported. Dell Vostro 3550 supports Windows 10 . Just connect to internet after Windows 10 Installation and then let drivers update. After some time, you will be asked to restart PC. Restart and see, its done. No lag no problems.

I am currently with this problem and the BIOS update to A12 version did not solve it. My screen remains blank or black. I can acess my Vostro only with an external monitor. Anyone has another solution for it? Thank you.

P.s: I already reset the Intel Graphics 3000 drivers, but didn't work as well.

I recently experienced this same problem when trying to install Windows 10 on a Dell Vostro 3550. I tried the suggested solutions without success. In my case it seems that the root cause was an old battery - when I tried to install Windows 10 without a battery installed, it worked perfectly!

My guess is that this is all related to the computer's power management system. During the first installation steps the drivers for the power management system must not be installed yet. Then, upon installation, the power management system detects a critical battery condition and tries to safely shut down the system. With that it interrupts the Windows 10 installation process. Likely the previously suggested driver and BIOS changes disabled or adjusted the power management system enough to avoid this problem, but in my case this didn't work. As mentioned above, installation succeeded with the battery removed.
