Want to upgrade my wifi card

Dear Sir!

I've hoped you can use your valuable time to help me out. I've been suffering with my laptops WiFi card for a while. I have a Dell Inspiron 15-3531, the one with the Celeron N2830. Could you help me out with choosing a WiFi card, it doesn't need to be mPCIE, I don't mind using a USB one neither. I really need 5 GHZ, and 2.4 GHZ as well for sure. I've been trying to read for answers over the internet but I'm really analphabetic to that topic. I hope you can help me out.

Your system uses the same type of slot as the person who originally created this topic, so the answer above would also work for you.  If you would prefer to use a USB adapter, then there are a variety of good options.  I like ASUS products.  But any WiFi adapter that supports 802.11ac will also support 5 GHz because that is required for 802.11ac certification.  However, you will probably see better performance with mPCIe compared to USB because an internal mPCIe card can use the antennas that run up into the display.  A USB adapter would only have small antennas built into the adapter itself, unless you bought a version that plugged into an external antenna block, but that would obviously be much less portable.

Well 5 years ago that may have been the case, and/or even if suitable AC cards were available back then, it was probably true that Dell didn't offer an official 802.11ac upgrade for that system.  And even if there was an AC card on the market that should work in that system, I can see why it wouldn't be good for Dell reps to just recommend aftermarket upgrades that were never officially tested, because if they don't work (even if they should), then customers get upset that an "official Dell recommended upgrade" didn't work.  And unfortunately it also isn't unusual Dell support reps to give incorrect information, especially when it comes to questions that are fairly technical and/or specific to certain models.  They're simply not trained for deep technical knowledge and the minutiae of every product.  But again, in this particular case I don't think that would have been the issue.
