HELP - RE: DIAGNOSTICS RESULT

Hello everyone!

I'm not 100% sure what this means but I know that something's not right. I ran the 40-minute long diagnostics and the results are the following:

1. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design Multiple Rendering DX9 Test Abnormal ExitHard Drive Seagate 2. BUP BK SCSI Disk Device Funnel Seek Test Warning

What do these mean? Is there an easy fix for them?

Thanks in advance!

Judging by the 2 references to the hard drive, it could be that the drive is not bad yet but some problems are down the road. Are you having any other hard drive symptoms such as ticking noise, longer than normal times accessing the drive or running programs, or unusual errors? If the drive is going bad, then the only fix is replacement. Have you run chkdsk yet? Following are steps to run and use the portion of the article for the version of Windows you are running.

Thank you for your message. Did you run a hardware diagnostic outside the operating system or within the OS using the Dell Support Assist application?

As JOcean mentioned it could be an indication that the drive could have some errors.

Did you observe any performance issues?

Run a custom test on the hard drive. Initiate a hardware diagnostic by following the video on this link http://bit.ly/2fJuGXB , while on the test screen, check the box that says through-test, on the lower right & double click on the hard drive.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Dell-Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Right now, there aren't any noticeable performance issues nor delays in accessing files because my unit is still basically new and I have around 850 GB free space out of 950-ish GB. I haven't experienced any errors or anything significant for that matter. I ran both chkdsk and scanned through My Computer and there wasn't anything as you suggested. Does this mean that it could have been a glitch or do you think there might still be something wrong? Thank you very much!

Hello Sreejith!

I ran the diagnostics using the support assist app. Right now, I don't see any performance issues. Anyway, I still ran a custom test as you instructed. I also followed JOcean's suggestions but I got nothing, no prompt for error. So I was wondering if the support assist may have had a glitch while I was running the diagnostics. That said, should I do some more tests or is it good enough to assume that my hard drive is just fine?

Thank you!

If everything tests fine in diagnostics and chkdsk revealed no problems then I would not worry about it. Very possible it was a glitch in support assist. And I believe you said the system is new so even if a problem should pop up shortly, which I doubt, the warranty will cover any repairs. Again, just enjoy the system...computers do strange things sometimes for which there are no obvious reasons.
