I'm not sure of the actual dimensions, but the standard IDE "internal" drive is what you want.

Here is a sample of the size drive you want. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Teac_DV_516E_DV516E_KIT_B

The dimensions are listed in the specs.

Thanks for your response. The drive you mentioned, as far as I can determine, is a standard size drive and is too big for my Dell Dim. 4500s. Dell calls the drive that I want to replace "Slim". Two Dell e-mails have told me nothing regarding measurements. Another source states it may be 12.7 mm high. I have asked Dell for a DVD Burner that I can use in that drive slot and I get "NA" search.

Again, thanks,

Gordon

Here is the link to the Dell specs for the 4500.  According to the specs it has slots for two 5 1/4" drives, which is where you would install a CD or DVD drive.   http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dim4500/specs.htm?prn=pg

There is a drive listed here that states it's compatible with the 4500 or 4500s. Would seem to indicate the standard  drive would fit the 4500s as well.
