when i start up windows it takes a long time, and the opening page where it says dell in big blue letters with the white loading bar underneath, loads up fast, but when it at 100 percent it stays that way for a little while, then brings me to that dos page withe the F1 and F2 option, but right above that it says, Secondary drive Not Found, is that drive the DVD Drive?
Could i do a system restore to bring it back to the way my comp was a couple hours ago, or a day ago. Will that work? or will the dvd drive still be unoperatable
i have the identical problem. i posted several days ago and predator and i have been working on it, but so far nothing seems to work. I lost both my dvd-rom and cd-rw with that download, but i didn't use the floppy to open my computer, but i still had the f2, and set-up screen come up. have you installed sp2 yet? and could there be a problem with this?
Did you try uninstalling the DVD software (from Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs), rebooting, and then reinstalling from the CD that came with your computer?
im not sure what the DVD software for the drive is called?. I also just spent 2 hours on the phone with dell, and we tried everything except reinstall the dvd rom software so that might work. After the phone call nothing was resolved they told me to do one of three things or all three things, 1 Reinstall Windows Xp ( which i think is a hassle that is unnecessary and time consuming b/c i have to back up all my files) 2 Buy a new DVD rom drive, which is only like 30 dollars so im considering that, b/c then i could upgrade ( any recommendations on a solid working 16x rom drive) 3 contact my local computer guy because my warranty is up. ( can i buy more warranty time)
In MY Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs list, it's called "PowerDVD" and is 13.32MB in size. The reinstallation disc is a separate disc which came with the computer. To uninstall and reinstall the software should take you no more than 5 to 10 minutes. Post back if you don't understand what I am saying.
I uninstalled and then installed powerdvd, nothin happened
My drive is corrupt or something, so im just gonna buy a new one sometime unless i can figure this out without reinstalling xp, which i dont think will help, It doesnt hurt the comp to have a dead drive sitting in it, does it? Any good recommendations on a new DVD Rom?
