Definition of Terms, Help

Hello,

I received no training on Networker and find it very hard to understand some times. e.g. What does NMCASA meant? GST? lgto?

Then I google it and the information just isn't there or I can't find it with a normal query. I know there's a manual and an IRC board somewhere. If someone could please point me at the proper IRC server and channel (I can't connect to freenode right now for some reason), where the manual is and some sort of Wiki where I can get definitions of terms for this massive software, I'd be very thankful.

Hi Chris... Good news is that you can ignore those.  They are just names with "no special meaning".

But if you are into "I want to know so speak up" mood here it is:

  • NMC is using database by Sybase - more correctly Adaptive Sybase Anywhere (which makes it ASA).  So, to mark backup saveset of NMC database somewhat special in naming convention, EMC uses tag called NMASA
  • GST stands for Generic Services Toolkit.  Nothing end user should loose sleep about, but you can google it for more info (in short, it is sort of wrapper for any command-line application to be an application service)
  • lgto is short for Legato - company which developed NetWorker.

Thanks very much for the definition.

Do you know if there's a #networker channel on freenode?

I know there's an EMC channel. Frankly, I think there's enough people chatting everyday about Networker in the world to host a channel somewhere... I also love IRC because you can learn from other people's problems as they scroll by.

No idea... I used IRC while starting to use computers, BBS and Gophers.  That was long time ago.  I honestly thought IRC didn't existed any longer.  There are several resources for NW like mailing list which is not managed by EMC, this forum, then IRC channel, then linkedin group, facebook group, I guess google circle group probably exists.. I hate to be stretched among different options so I just fly over the threads here when I catch some time.
