Recover-point with Clariion Splitter

All,

When using a Clariion splitter in a Recover-point environment, how many LUNs can be added to the Recoverpoint storage group on the Clariion?

There is a limit of 255 luns for the storage group, which if exceeded the failover would not be working properly if the failover software doesnt support for the host in that initiator group.

Do we any any such limit for Recover-point? If so, what is the limit for Recoverpoint.

Regards,

Praveen

Praveen,

You still must adhere to the same limits CX has for the storage groups, but it is not limited to 255, different models have different limits, see the CX/VNX docs for the true limits.  RP using CX splitter understands these limits and will warn you of these within the RP GUI.

We have accounted for these array limitation with RP design, both for CX as well as 3rd party arrays that have similar limits.  We accomplish this through the use of virtual WWN's of each RPA physical FC port allowing up to 16 WWN's per Physical port.   This allows you to create multiple Storage Groups spreading the required luns across these to overcome the limits.  You can find information on this in the admin guide troubleshooting section.

All RecoverPoint specific limits are listed in the Release Notes for the version of RP in use.

According to the latest release notes the max # of luns is 2048 per clariion. You can get around the 255 lun limit per storage group by creating virtual initiators which creates "more" RPA ports and therefore the ability to register those ports as another host and create a new storage group.
