Hard Runtime Limit and Soft runtime Limit in Networker

Hi All,

While exploring some information and options in networker I found Hard Runtime limit and Soft Runtime limit options. I read about these option and really impressed with these. When I tried to suggest to implement these options in my environment where i have more than 2000 clients in 15 + groups, my implementation engineer says this option is not suggestable.

Can any one tell me whether

1. can we use this option for environment having huge number of clients /

2. Is this option is specific to any type of backup like (FS, exchange, Database etc.)

3. I am more looking at FS backups.

Let me know asap.

Thanks in advance.

These are savegroup parameters - as such the number of clients does not matter.

I would not recommend hard limits with groups that start database backups but file system backups can be stopped at any time. You may also consider checkpoint backups in case you want to restart the group later.

We also have a tech tip on runtime limits: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-6160

These options make sense with groups you want to limit for some reason.  I plan to use hard limit on archive log groups (limit being 2x time of group frequency).  I find a bit hard to imagine where I would use soft limit, but that is not to say this option is not welcome.
