EMC Networker 8 AD Restore using VADP

Hi! Can someone give me direction or point me a reference document for best practices for recovering a virtual Domain Controller using VADP? I have information on setting it up but nothing for restoring data of this type.

thanks a lot!

Steve

stevemenzies,

I just did this. I'll shoot out the documentation I used. There are several variations of doing an AD restore. It can either be AD objects, all of AD itself, etc.

Here is the documentation:

https://support.emc.com/docu44937_NetWorker_Module_for_Microsoft_Applications_2.4_SP1_Installation_Guide.pdf?language=en_US

Thanks

Hi mikuszed!

thanks for the swift reply, I cannot find any reference to recovering a Virtual DC using VDP in this document though! You are correct though in that I want to restore individual objects from a backup

Steve,

If you want to restore individual AD objects, you'll need to setup a separate job for that and use Networker Module for Microsoft Applications 2.4.1 (NMM 2.4.1).

I just saw Carlos reply and he is actually dead on with what you want to do. If you look at the PDF, those steps to complete the NMM 2.4.1 setup, should be there using nsradsave.exe.

Thanks,

Hi Steve,

I think there is no way to restore single AD objects from within a VADP backup.

If that is what you want, I would recommend you to install NMM in the DC and use client backups rather than VADP backups.

You could have VADP backups to backup the entire VM, and NMM (client) backups to run and restore item level (granular) AD backups.

Thank you,

Carlos
