Force NetWorker to *not* treat a drive as 'critical' and not create OSSR saveset?

A secondary drive on one of our NW clients is by no means critical, and we'd like it backed up as a bog-standard drive, without an OSSR saveset each week. Is there any way to force NW to treat is as a normal, non-critical drive?

Thanks for replying - we did actually implement version 8 and spent several weeks trying to get it to work (with EMC's assistance) but eventually we made the decision to roll back to 7.6 - nobody was more disappointed than I.

SP1 had just been released, and the problem we had - traditional clients would backup fine, VADP backups would sit in "waiting to run" forever. It was escalated to senior support but the only recommendation they had was to try building a new NW server, which we did and it still didn't work - so we gave up.

I am assuming you might be using NetWorker 7.6.x and the additional backup is eating up your tape capacity. The best resolution would be upgrade to NetWorker 8.x. in these version the OSSR_* backups are discarded altogether.

Which version (of NW8) did you try and what were the problems that let you rollback?

SP1 is not GA - so why would you deploy that in the first place? Also,VADP seems to be pretty much obsolete in 8.1 in favor of VBA as that seems to be the way to go forward (until VMware change it again ).  It is pity you didn't go to 8.0.x which in more mature.

I am assuming you are referring to the NetWorker on the backup server, you can still upgrade the client version to avoid the OSSR savesets.

This is interesting - so if we keep our servers at 7.6 and update the clients to the latest version of 8, it will improve the disaster recovery savesets to be more efficient?

Hello,

You can use latest version of NW on your clients with -

◆ NetWorker server 7.5 SP3 or later

◆ NetWorker Management Console (NMC) 7.6 SP1 or later

It will provide you better disaster recovery options.

If you want to make use the BMR capability on windows 2008 servers then yes. Having nw 8.x will give you the option of both online and offline DR of windows 2008.
