i would, because you are still on the same network as your hardware so you don't have to monkey around with crossover cables/hubs just to get to the hardware.

IP interface on Cisco MDS switches is for management purposes only,  switch will continue to service fiber channel traffic even if you unplug that cable.

Are your servers using navi agent or manual registration ?

We are moving to another state.  We will be on same domain but different network.  Will it still make since to change IP addresses before move?

Servers are using Emulex One Command for registration.

What order should I change Ip addresses:  Switches > VNX > Servers ?

We will be moving a server rack which is housing four physical servers, VNX 5100, and Cisco switches to another location.  Yes, everything will be shutdown in the rack and moved.  Would it be best to make ip changes before shutting down?

Changing Storage Processor IP Addresses for VNX for Block

This procedure describes how to change the public IP addresses of a VNX for Block series system after installation. This procedure was originally spun from Primus emc64540.

Before beginning this procedure, ensure that the VNX system is at VNX OE for Block version 5.30 or later.

1. Do not attempt to change SP IP address values using the Unisphere management interface. This could result in an unmanageable system.

Before you begin

If the array to be changed is part of a storage domain, you must remove it from the domain before proceeding. If the array to be changed is the domain master, assign another array to that role before continuing.

If this is the only array in a storage domain, it is NOT necessary to destroy the domain prior to changing the IP address.

Check that all hosts have dual-Fibre connectivity and that failover software is working correctly.

1. The domain can be destroyed from Navisphere/Unisphere engineering mode.

Before beginning, you should decide which of your VNX System IP addressing values are going to be changed. If you are changing the IP values, you must determine whether they will be changed from one physical network address, to another or simply changing to values within the same network. Changing IP values from one physical network to another physical network requires more steps than if simply changing IP address values from one address to another address within the same physical network structure.

Once the necessary changes have been determined, then you can perform the appropriate actions from the procedure to apply the changes.

1. The steps for performing address changes from one physical network to another physical network are different than if performing address changes within the same network.

Determine which of the following task heads best represents the type of IP address modification you require. There are 3 options (tasks) that can be used to change the IP address on VNX or CLARiiON Block array. The first 2 methods do require customer network access. Option 3 does not require customer network access.

1. 1: Option 1: NAVISECCLI Method

If it is a simple IP address change you can use naviseccli. This method does Not reboot the SPs if you reset the IP address. It simply restarts the Management Server. If doing this for both SPs, you will need to run this command for each Storage Processor.

1. You will need the Login and Password info for this array.

Another easy method is to navigate to the SP IP address/Setup page. Note that you will need the Login and Password info for this array.

Change the IP address of SPA:

• 1. [   ]    Open a web browser and go to the setup page for SP A:

1. [   ]    Set the IP address, netmask and gateway for the new setting. When you accept the setting, you see a message that the SP will reboot.
2. [   ]    Establish a serial PPP connection to the other SP. Bring up a browser and enter the following:

1. [   ] Set the IP address, netmask, and gateway for this SP.
2. [   ] Accept the settings and reboot.
3. [   ] Enter the new IP address/setup in the browser and check your settings.
4. [   ] Rejoin the storage domain or recreate the domain if it was destroyed.

You may need to rejoin or recreate the storage domain if it was destroyed.

1. [   ] Once both IP addresses have changed, browse back to the /setup page on the first SP that you changed and click the Restart Management Server button.
2. The SPs will not be able to communicate until either the Management Server is restarted, or the array is re-powered. Once all this is done, you can browse back to one of the SPs and reinitialize security.

If you do not remove the security first, it can cause problems with security (or, at least. it used to in older code revisions) and you may end up locked out of the SPs and have to resort to serial connections and EMC Technical Support assistance to forcibly destroy the security.

1. 5: Test the SP IP Address Values

Test the IP address values of the Storage Processors:

1. [   ]    From a client (management console or some other computer) on the same subnet as the VNX, test the new public IP addresses of the SPs:

• 1. Test the SP A address:

ping <SPA_IPv4_address>

1. Test the SP B address:

ping <SPB_IPv4_address>

Can we apply a single command to change both IP and DG? The subnet mask 255.255.255.0 will be same for both old and new network.

You want to set the IP address, netmask and gateway for the new setting all at the same time.  Once they are all set then your SP will reboot to apply the new settings.

I I understood correctly,

Perform the above for SP-B, am I correct?
