Assessment for Acronis backup
Hi,
I see there is no assessment available on Mitrend for Acronis.
What is the best way to get an idea of that environment or is there some other tool available?
The same with Centera - no tool on Mitrend.
Cheers.

I am looking to assess Acronis and position an EMC product.
For Centera I am looking to assess the environment as a Health Check.

I don't know about Centera but for the backup bit I suggest a host based assessment. Use the Mitrend Scanner for the Server Inventory and VMware scans. I also use RVTools and Microsoft MAP as they present the information in different ways.
When you know the used capacity of the environment you can put together something high level in terms of sizing for example if it under 50TB it'll be a DD2500 (no one uses Avamar for backup data these days).
I then usually present the customer with a list of the servers and ask them to sort them into various classes, general file, SQL, Oracle etc. Along with this I ask them to provide the schedule and retention they require for each. You can go deeper and do file system file-type breakdowns but in my experience it is of little value.
It is then just a case of wrangling this information into the Backup System Sizer and let that come up with the specification.
This method also provides you with all the various servers so you can ask if any application level integration will be required and that helps scope the install services.
Hope that helps.
