CX300 - replace fault disk
CX300 - replace fault disk
I just purchased a "refurbished" disk.
Please could you provide the steps to follow to correctly replace the failed disk with the new one.
If the disk is not OK, what can happen during the replacement ?
What are possible risks for this operation ?
Thanks in advance,
Edgardo

On the CX300 arrays if you have a faulted disk, you can check in Navisphere to confirm that the disk is marked "Faulted". Click on the disk and select Properties to see what the status is.
You must be sure that this is the only disk in the Raid Group that is faulted (only one disk per raid group can be faulted - if two disks are faulted in the same raid group you have a double faulted raid group and the replacement of one disk will not fix the problem).
Once you have verified that the disk is faulted, locate the Correct physical location of the disk in the DAE (the fault light should be ember), then remove the faulted disk and insert the replacement disk. If the new disk is good, it should start the equalize from the Hot Spare (if hot spare is in use). You can check the status in Navisphere in the DAE - right click on the disk and look at Properties - it should show either rebuilding (if there was no hot spare) or Equalizing (if the hot spare was already engaged and replacing the failed disk).

Just as a continuation of this thread, is there any concern over mismatched firmware revisions as long as the disks are the same model number as what we are using? We just ordered 3 refurbs because we've had a failed disk, and we're using the storage for an important Dev environment.

Check in the following document for disks to Flare:

HI,
I could see one vault HDD is with amber LED & also we aren't able to access the storage.
However both the SPA & SPB IP are pinging & NAVISPHERE login page is opening.
But none of the passwords are working. tried all the default usernames & passwords.
Tried PPP login also. But its not connecting.

If you can open Navisphere, on the tab for hardware, you should be able to open the tree to see the disks and DAE's. If you see a faulted disk, you should replace that disk.
The username/password that you use to log into Navisphere appear to be working from your description, so you should be able to get the the User Manager to check the other usernames/passwords. On CX300 there are no default usernames/passwords/ The PPP connection does not need a username/password.
