As in transfer the data on the Laptop Hard Drive to a Desktop one?

Would it be possible to connect the notebook hard drive to an IDE chain and then transfer all the data to a blank hard drive? What would I need?
Then what would be the safest way to delete all the data on the drive?

yeah it's possible to hook up your laptop's hard drive to an ide converter cable then hook it up to the desktop. you could find one on the web but not sure if dell has it. try googling it.
