Inspiron 17 7000 screen - Discontinued?
Hey all, looking for a screen for a Inspiron 17 7000 laptop. Owner says it's not that old but my screen vendor told me they can't get it and it's showing up as a discontinued part. What's the deal here?

Could you please post the exact model number of your system? 7000 is a series not an exact model number.

If it is the original 7000 2 in 1 laptop it is 13 yrs old. Laptops, 2 in 1's and all in ones don't last that long so parts will not be available. To see what exact model check the label for the system tag. Don't post it here since that is not allowed but see what info you can get from entering it here-- https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/?l=en
If the sticker is worn off try checking the bios. If it's running windows 10--open Settings, System, About to see the exact model.

If you can run the laptop running System Information (msinfo32) is another way to find out which one is your model, it should display it under "System Model". As for the screen, even if you don't get the same one I'm sure you can find one that works.
There are a couple of things you need to do to find a compatible one though: First would be to know the panel you have, you can disassemble the laptop to look for a part number, or use HWiNFO for example to see it without disassembling. Once you know it, search for an image online and its characteristics.
You'd need to find one of the same size, same connector and location and ideally same resolution but if it's lower it should also work (higher possibly as well, but you'd have to check the capabilities of the graphics card).
It's cumbersome to do all this manual searching, but if you can't find an original Dell part anywhere and you still want to get a screen for it, a compatible panel works fine.

Have you checked what warranty cover it has?
For example if it's premium support plus then it covers accidental damage, you get 1 claim per year.
You can check online using the service tag.
