BSOD: Driver Verifier DMA Violation with TB16 Docks

Hi,

We have XPS 15s that have started blue screening all the time lately when they are connected to their TB16 docks.  Some are 9560s and some are brand new 9570s.  I've seen older posts about the driver of the ASMedia USB item but I've checked that and we seem to be up to date with 1.16.55.1 or 1.16.54.1 depending on the machine.

I have run Dell Command Update to make sure all the drivers, BIOS, etc are up to date.

I have run the TB16 updater program to make sure all the stuff inside the Dock is up to date.

We still get periodic blue screens.  Anyone have any idea what else we can check to figure out why this is happening?

Thanks.

Same.  Precision 5520 with TB16 dock.  Started after driver updates a few weeks ago.

Pretty sure it is somehow related to USB in the dock.  Recent driver updates that were released since the problem started have made it better, but still not fixed.

@GrasshopperNZ  I downloaded PassMark Burn in (standard edition trial)

I am running the sound test and could reproduce the BSOD within 2-6 mins or running the test, I have a Dell AC511 USB speaker bar and I also tried a APU-75 (hook cable for our phone headset to usb) apu-75

These Both caused BSOD's, since the regkey removal from the ASmedia its been stable, but we a lot of these being reported mainly on the 5530 and 5520's in our enviorment, so wondering if I should just package up a bat to file to just delete those files and reboot the laptops.

@MsiljanovskiThanks for your help mate, I have been testing all morning and can now reproduce the BSOD on faulty system's, I then re-image a 5530 with the below driver '1.16.54.1 ,A10' in the SCCM driver package I created and the system tested OK. I have not tried removing the regkey as it is only laptops that I have received recently that have the issue and am able to simply re-image.

I did test just re-installing the below driver on a faulty system and that did not help so I guess the driver removal process does not completely remove every change made by the '1.16.55.' driver.

If it helps I have also included a link to a screenshot with all the drivers I have imported into my driver package

These steps have also solved the problem I was having with the dock and a Yamaha mixer/sound card

I have the same issue with a Logitech Brio 4K connected to the TB16 Dock.

How can I solve this?

I recently picked up a TB16 to use with my XPS 13 9370 and a U3818dw monitor.  I have the bsod driver verifier dma verification problem when I attempt to use my Logitech Brio webcam.  I believe all systems are up to date.  I'm at a loss for how to proceed.

I appreciate the private reply seeking to help me.  But rather than go through the usual routine of having people confirm that firmware and drivers are up to date and leaving it at that, this thread makes very clear that there is a chronic problem with the Dell docks and webcams that, it appears, relates to some common underlying software.  Has anyone at Dell attempted to take commonly used webcams and get them to work with the TB16 and a variety of Dell computers?  This issue has been lingering for a long time and has not been solved.

Is anyone from Dell working on this chronic issue.  I am working with customer support and have confirmed multiple times that I am running current firmware and drivers on my XPS 13 9370 and TB 16.  The camera works as intended when connected directly to the computer and generally speaking the TB 16 functions, i.e., keyboard, mouse, network connection and monitor connect are as they should be.  It is difficult for me to understand how the root cause has not been isolated and addressed a long time ago.  And yes, I've tried verifier /reset too.

I have now replicated the error with a second Logitech webcam, in this case the Logitech HD Webcam C615.  So both the Brio and C615 fail with the BSOD when connected to the XPS 13 9370 through the TB 16.  Both cameras work as intended when connected directly to the XPS 13 9370.  The TB 16 seems to function properly otherwise, i.e., keyboard, mouse, monitor and network connection appear fine.  But when the TB 16 is used in conjunction with either webcam, the BSOD results.  The verify / reset thing does not matter.  I am using up to date versions of Windows 10, firmware and all drivers.  I have tried different USB ports, etc.  This problem is real and I don't get the sense that anyone at Dell has attempted to replicate this in house.  Help!!!!

Today I attempted to connect a Cisco Precision HD Webcam.  Same result.  BSOD.

OK So I saw this error today. XPS 7390 with a TB16.  I also have a XPS 7390 with a Generic Dock that has no issues.

As a seasoned tech these are the steps I took.

1.) Uncheck the restart on Blue Screen  (old School Fix that stops blue screens from even occuring)

2.) Upgraded BIOS to 1.4 which came out 12/18/2019

3.) Install both dock drivers for Audio and Network.  Now is the waiting period to see if Blue Screen happens.

Dell you need to do more work n BIOS and Drivers before Shipping new units!  Unacceptable Blue Screen in 2019!

This freaking dock.  I think the latest drivers (1.16.59.1_A16) are buggy again, and I see under Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\asmtxhci\Parameters, DmaRemappingCompatible seems to have changed from 0 (not compatible) to 2 (compatible) again.

In this case I had trouble once I enabled Hyper-V.  Same problems as I had previously where the system would freeze while I plugged it in and it enumerated the USB devices.

I have wiped the new drivers, along with the registry keys (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\asmthub3, Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\asmtxhci), and reinstalled the previous one (1.16.56.1_A13).  I stopped having issues after I did that.

Honestly, the awful experience with my XPS 9365 and TB16 led me to replace the XPS with an hp (both "work" with the dock, but with the same driver issues); it's the first non-Dell I've bought, but my support experience on this $2500+ pair has been so, so bad (and the fanless XPS is so, so slow).  Before I finally dug around and found the driver issues, Dell support tried to have me downgrade the firmware on the dock (it couldn't), and then said, "well, you're out of warranty, tough luck" (because I bought them days apart, and they wouldn't let me attach the dock to the system warranty, which I had upgraded to 4 years --- if I had bought them in the same order the dock warranty would have also been 4 years).  Meanwhile it was just a stupid driver issue.

I'm getting very close to giving up on the TB 16,  Can anyone a third party dock that actually works?  I need ethernet, HDMI and USB 3 support with a Thunderbolt connection to my XPS 13 9370.
