TL1000 Tape loader not recognised, just tape drive

Hi,

I have installed a Powervault TL1000 on an R540 server with Windows Server 2019. I can see the tape drive in device, but when I have installed "Veeam Backup and Restore" only the drive appears and not the tape loader so there are no slots appearing and I have to manually load the tape into the drive from whichever slot. I was told on the Veeam forums that I needed to have the loader in device manager, which I don't see anywhere but I have loaded all the drivers from the support site so I'm not sure why it doesn't appear.

I have the drive connected to the HBA 12Gbps SAS external connector port.

1. Should the Tape Loader appear in device manager?

2. Under what area will it appear?

3. Currently the drive is just listed as "IBM Ultrium 8 HH 3580 TAPE DRIVE" is this correct?

Hello TyreeIT,

Here is the link to the user’s guide for your TL1000, & if you look on page 34 you can see where you need to make sure your TL1000 is set to random.  https://dell.to/2UwHALl

Also, when you installed the drivers did you have windows install the driver or did you use install_nonexclusive.exe file?  If you did not use the install_nonexclusive.exe then I would run that file and it will install the drivers for the medium changer/ autoloader.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,

Sorry where do you mean, Device Manager or Veeam for the configuration?

I checked under device manager and there is no option for Tape Library.

Thanks
