The truth be told, I had the same result WRT HDD not requiring update.  And therefore I have learned to live with the noise.  Basically, unless you are in a dead quite environment you wont hear it, and since I am rarely in a fully quit place I really don't notice it.  I have had no problems with the drive to date.

I also was able to make the bootable CD. Ran the program but the message came back that my drive did not need the update. I still have the click. I called Hitachi and was informed that the click is common. What is anyones answer to what they don't have an answer for ?

Did your click go away ?>

Unusual sounds are not normal. They only become normal when the vendor does not have a fix !

I would also add bad design to that...
 
You get no argument from me, but I have backups and it's under warranty for a good time to come.  So we shall see...

Well, I flashed the BIOS to A06 and the clicking, although still there is Much less frequent.
No Events found!
