Upgrading the SSD on a Dell Inspiron 7577 - which one do I need and other questions

Hey,

A couple of years ago I bought an Inspiron 7577: https://www.dell.com/si/business/p/inspiron-15-7577-laptop/pd. My model has an M.2 SSD with 256 GB capacity. I'm now looking to uprade it to either 515GB or 1TB.

First of all: will any random M.2 SSD with the right dimensions work? Or do I need to get an officially supported one?

Secondly, for the supported SSDs it looks like I need to be on this page: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/pcie-ssd-drives/ar/8374?~ck=bt&appliedRefinements=32156. The prices don't make any sense though, why the Crucial P1 so much cheaper than the Dell ones? Is there some other specification where it's worse?

And lastly, how does the replacement work in practice? I pretty sure I'll need to reinstall windows, but can I keep the data on my secondary hard drive intact?

Thanks!

1. Any random M.2 SSD would not work with your laptop. You have to see which one fits into the place of the SSD slot.

2. I may not be able to tell you why different SSDs are priced differently. But I can connect you to a page that gives you the details about the RAM you can put in your Dell Inspiron 7577.

Here it is: https://www.crucial.in/compatible-upgrade-for/dell/inspiron-15-(7577)
