Precision 5820 Memory not running at 2667 MHz

I purchased some Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz (4x16GB) to upgrade my 5820 tower.  According to the memory configuration the memory should be accessed at 2667MHz.  But when I boot the server and check the BIOS, the frequency is set to 2133MHz.  I don't see any settings related to XMP in the BIOS.  I contacted Dell and was told that the memory speed was "auto detected" and there was no way to set it.

Should I have purchased the LPX 2667MHz memory instead?  I grabbed the 3000 because it only cost 1 dollar more.  Alternatively, are there recommended memory modules known to work at 2667 with the 5820?  The memory from Dell is extremely expensive.

Just to follow up.  My 2666MHz memory arrived and I just tried it out.  It has four timings in the SPD (from CPU-Z):

2384, 2526, and 2 for 2666MHz (different latencies).  The BIOS picked one of the latter and now reports the expected 2667 MHz frequency.  All is good.

Hi,

I am facing the same problem. Upgraded to 16X4GB 3200MHz DDR4, but only found out that the system runs at 2133MHz.

Have you figured out the problem?

Thanks!

I believe I have figured it out after some research.  The workstation doesn't have a way to select an XMP profile or overclock (manually set timings/voltage) in the BIOS.  Instead, it reads the SPD and picks a profile from there.  I ran CPU-Z and found out that the 3000MHz memory I purchased had four profiles - three at 2133Mhz and one at 3000Mhz.  The MB only supports 2667, so it picked one of the 2133 profiles to use.

So I returned the memory and purchased some 2667 memory.  Hopefully that will solve the issue.
