Intel Optane 800p in r730

Hey All,

Trying to run an Intel Optane 800p PCIe 3.0 x2, NVMe M.2 in a dell r730. I've got this M.2 PCIE adapter - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZYHLJYK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've got it installed in Riser 1, and now I have no idea where to go. Where can I verify that it is recognized and will work?

Hi,

I've checked on the manual and specifications for R730, and it seems that it's not supporting PCIe NVMe M.2 adapters.

Let's confirm that. Firstly, you may need to update the server's BIOS and firmware. You can do that in Lifecycle Controller (LCC) or iDRAC.

Then try to check in LCC if the card is detected in hardware inventory. Though, I do have some user have tried booting from PCIe M.2 cards, it's not possible. It's not supported.

If you find that NVME is not bootable, it may still be available after booting.  If that's the case, you may want to use a USB flash drive to hold the boot loader, which will then boot from the NVME.  This works on the R530.
