Since Feb. 24.2003 you can get a Firmware Upgrade for the SN-324B from www.samsungodd.com

I have the same drive with the same problem...so I went to www.samsungodd.com to get the new firmware update.  Oddly, even though this site says firmware version U101 is new as of 2/24, I already have this version...and I got my I8200 at the end of January.  So, I'm not really sure that this would fix the problem in my case...unncessary firmware updates are good things to avoid.

It's exactly the same firmware version, so it really won't help anything by installing this firmware :(
The problem still isn't solved :( I think waiting and waiting for a new firmware version?

I've also called Dell Support, they really don't know why it doesn't work, strange huh :D
If someone has an other solution please let me know...

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem! I bought my Insprion 8200 at the end of Jauary also. I've got the U101 firmware too. My thoughts are that the drive is not supported by the major software writers: Nero, Feurio, etc. Although Nero does claim to support our drive on its site so I'm at a loss.

Hi Sith,

Is your problem solved? Every week I'm looking for a solution but still haven't found anything. I tried a newer version of Nero, but it won't help me fixing the problem. Have you find a solution ? Want to burn from my laptop :D but how is the question ?????/

Thanks.

Hi I have also problems with the Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324B. I cannot copy bin/cue images. I have tried Nero 5.5.10.15, CRDwin 5.0 and Alcohol 120% and nothing works. I have a new Inspiron 8200 and this is not the only problem that I have (I also have problems with the Rodeon mobile 9000 and my Microcal Origin).

Any help is welcomed!

I have the same issue with the SN-324B on my Inspiron 8200.  I can burn ISO images, but not many bin/cue images.  I have tried Nero 5.5.10.20 and CloneCD 4.2.0.2.

Another strange thing is that these programs report errors reading/ripping a lot of images too.

I have verified this problem exists on a collegue's Inspiron 8200 as well.

There is definiately something wrong with the drive, even though it passes all the tests on Dell's diagnostic disk.

Has anyone found a solution?

A good program to burn bin/cue files is Fireburner, the only problem is you need to install the ASPI layers. When I installed those layers my drive wouldnt read the disks in the drive  : (

I have this drive in my new Latitude C840

I uninstalled Roxio Easy Cd & Installed Nero.

Can't burn Cd's at anything faster than 12X; if I do I usually get a bufferunderrun, or the Cd will write but last severals songs are jumpy/staticy. At 12X, everything perfect. It's like "Justlink", is not functioning. Don't know if it's a Nero issue or a firmware issue. Other than that, the drive works fine. It's irritating, as the kids surf the net while burning audio on 40X on my PIII500 desktop, and have yet to create a coaster.

This is from last section of log: (it means nothing to me)

I have the EXACT same problem on my relatively new Inspiron 8500. It says my firmware version is U102 which isn't even on that site.

It burns the CD, but then the cd appears empty to it. The CD appears empty to all other drives as well.

I have this problem on a month old 8500 (XPsp1 and u102 on the SN-324B), although i have had some mild success....(and i'm real peeved about missing out on a dvd burner by 2 weeks)

anyway, here's the problems i had....

1) roxio would burn at 24x but the discs were only readable on my machine

2) cdrwin would burn bin/cue but although there was data on the cd's they were unreadable

3) nero would do the same as cdrwin

4) aspi wouldnt install, i had to use forceaspi

i figured it was a software problem to do with the aspi, so i formatted and reinstalled the OS....now the os takes the latest aspi with no problems and i can at least burn 12x bin/cue with nero and roxio works fine (haven't tried the others yet and i also wonder if my cd'r are good enough for 24x)

...will post i have better results

I have similar problems with this drive. On my Inspiron 8500, I burnt the latest FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE ISOs and then attempted to install them, but had lots of errors reading files during the installation and had to abort.

I booted back into Windows XP which too was unable to read certain files on the disc (which were displaying as 0 bytes). I burnt the disc several more times at lower speeds but this did not resolve the problem.
