Nothing, seems to have been a hardware problem in the end. removed drive and then reinserted. worked after a few trys but spotty. think there must be a loose connection.
the same thing happened to my insp. 5100. The drive was eventually recognized but the same thing keeps happening. has your computer been having this problem over and over again too?
i found that my disc drive is not acctually attached to anything. it's kind of like it is pluged in like a lamp. i guess it just work itself loose and needed to be pluged back in?

yep,
