R12 performing way worse than R11

I originally bought an air cooled R11 with i7 10700, RTX 3080, 16GB single channel memory at 2933MHz, 1 TB NVME + 1TB SATA HDD in December 2020.

The HDMI port on the back was not functioning properly. The service tech who was helping me set the system up mentioned it might be because the RTX 3080 is a very new product. Four months later, I filed a complaint as the issue never got fixed, and after doing a detailed diagnosis, the service tech said Dell will replace my RTX 3080. However, there were huge delays getting the RTX 3080 replaced, and after a month the service tech said I was eligible for a replacement unit. Since Dell had discontinued R11 by then, they offered me a R12 with similar specs.

Therefore, I got an air cooled R12 with i7 11700F, RTX 3080, 16GB single channel memory at 3200MHz, 1 TB NVME + 1TB SATA HDD yesterday.

I tried playing Red Dead Redemption 2, and noticed very poor performance on my R12 compared to the R11. I used to get 65fps on the R11 compared to only 35fps on R12 with the same settings.  On the R11, MSI Afterburner shows a 35% CPU usage, and a 99% GPU usage. However, on the R12, MSI Afterburner shows a 65% CPU usage, and only a 70% GPU usage. I initially thought it was an issue with the game, and for some reason it was not fully utilizing the GPU.

To test if the issue was present in other places, I tried running 3D Mark Spy Glass. Below are the results from the R12, and R11. As you can see, the R11 scored a 54% higher CPU score.

Then I proceeded to do a Passmark test, where it seems the R12 has very poor memory performance (22nd percentile) as shown below

After googling, this seems to be a common issue with the R12. Can someone from Dell confirm if they are working on resolving this? And a timeline by when this will be resolved?

They are working on it.  The issue is 11th gen Intel introduced gear mode and the R12 (which uses 11th gen rocket lake) is locked in one gear.

That seems to be how it is. Hopefully they fix it and push it to at least the performance levels of the R11

basically if you pay for 3090 in aurora r12, u get performance that is worse than what is expected for 3080.

u pay for 3080, performance is almost like 3070...

lol

I am having the same issue, I also have r12 with rtx3080 and I ran heaven benchmark and my score was 1505 compared to other people who scored around 16,000. I am trying to contact customer care for the past 2 days i sent a message on WhatsApp they keep ignoring my problem.

A bios update for the R12 was just released to address this, try updating your PC.
