Hi Dreamer,

The power cable can be tight at times, slighty "rock" the plug to the left, then right, with a steady pull outward.

Set the jumper on the DVD/RW to CS, when ready to install, the jumper is the small plastic shunt covering two pins on the back of the drive.

Best Regards

Do you always have to switch the jumper to CS.  The drive Dell sent me has the jumper on Cable Select is that what CS is?

I.m sorry, I have no idea what I am doing but Dell insisted on me installing the drive myself

Hi Dreamer,

Yes, CS stands for Cable Select, no you do not always have to use CS, however if per chance you have a second drive factory installed by Dell its jumper will be set on CS, so this is what you should use.

Click on the CD/RW link in my post, scroll to Section 4, there you will find tips on installation and also Dell Specification Pages. Follow the link for your system, look for Adding & Removing parts, you should find instructions along with an illustrations.

Best Regards
