BRAND NEW Inspiron 15 3000 is so slow it’s unusable

This laptop is slow that I don’t even want to use it!  I get frustrated just trying to turn it on.  Then after at least 10 minutes it is finished booting up.  So I try to open my browser(edge) and it freezes and shows as “not responding”.
I don’t understand how a brand new computer is completely unusable!   I will NEVER buy another Dell.  And I will also recommend to anyone else who is looking for a laptop to NOT buy a Dell either.
I’ve used 10 yr old laptops that performed better.  Old BlackBerry phones from 2005 ran faster than my BRAND NEW Dell Inspiron 15 3000.
If anyone has any helpful information to make this run somewhat like an actual laptop and be useful then I would greatly appreciate the help.  I’m at a loss..

And I have already tried the F12 during restart and trying to use auto diagnostics to find anything wrong.  I’ve updated all firmware and hardware and everything.  Never found any problems and all is up to date.  ITS JUST SO SLOW FOR NOW REASON!

Some alternatives:

If the system came with McAfee, uninstall it;  Windows Defender is far less resource intensive and just as effective (or more so).

Disable as many of the Dell services (particularly the resource intensive Support Assist) as you can.

You can add another 4G and a 512 G SSD for well under $150.

This is still going to be an economy system, but it can perform better -- though if you have any demanding applications in mind (particularly gaming, video editing, etc.) it would be better to return the system and order a higher-end model.

This is definitely bad news for me then.  Maybe I should just smash this thing.

If it has any of the three combinations of performance killer:

i3 CPU, 4G RAM, spinning hard drive,

That's the largest portion of the issue.  Windows 10 needs 8G and an SSD to perform acceptably.

The ONLY reason 4G/HDD configurations are sold is low up front price.

What's your exact model number? (3000 is just the series)

I agree with ejn63... If your system only has 4 GB of RAM installed, think about upgrading it to at least 8 GB. 4 GB is just barely enough for basic tasks with Windows 10. (Check the memory usage under task manager). And if you don't have a SSD installed, think about upgrading to that as well. The OEM hard drives tend to be very slow as the original one in my Inspiron took almost 2 minutes to boot to the desktop, where older systems upgraded from Windows 7 took much less time. Once you've upgraded those two items, the system will perform much better.

And just to throw it out there, investing in a system that costs more* usually means that it will perform better and will have better specs right out of the box (without user upgrades), and that it won't become outdated/obsolete as quick. If you buy another brand for about the same price as what you paid for your Dell, you'll likely experience similar performance with that system as well.

* Inspiron 3000 series are your lower end systems containing an Intel Core i3 processor and hardware configurations for basic everyday tasks, though they usually allow for enough headroom for RAM upgrades as well as SSD upgrades to help improve system performance and extend its usefulness.

I have the exact issue with my wife's laptop (Votros 14 3000). It is so frustrating arggg. Takes about 5 minutes to open a web page, if it opens at all.  Too slow to use any of the dynostics.  I'll never buy another laptop from Dell.  Pure junk!

Change Display Resolution

Hi Everyone

I suffered a week with slow performance and was very frustrated. After alot of research I didn't find any troubleshoot for this.

Finally in display setting I noticed my laptop scale was 125% (recommended) and next i noticed it's display resolution was 1920x1080 (recommended). Then and there I changed display resolution to 1366x768 with scale 100% (recommended). Believe me my laptop performance was increased. Though it's not as fast as laptop with SSD. Still it was a bit slow and then in BIOS I change SATA/NVMe operation to AHCI/NVMe which was in RAID On by default. Now it's working so smooth.

  • Setting> System> Display> Screen Resolution (select 1366x768 or 1360x768)
  • BIOS> Storage> SATA/NVMe> AHCI/NVMe

Note: after changing SATA/NVMe operation OS will not load so you need to do first boot in Safe Mode.

Hope this will help you!

Thanks!

I applied the first trick  and now my laptop is not hanging everytime. It was so frustrating since last 1 month that the laptop used to stop repsonding after every click for few seconds!!

I do not know where the problem lies!! And it is not that laptop was performing very well earlier, there were performance issues but last 1 month has been terrible. I had tried everything but nothing happened. So, I have done the following @Shahid Ansari  thanks for posting here:

  • Setting> System> Display> Screen Resolution (select 1366x768 or 1360x768)

Next I am also thinking of upgrading to 8gb RAM because windows 11 is consuming 89% of 3.4 gb of available RAM.

I have the same issue too. It is very frustrated. I bought it then can't use it. I usually use my company laptop instead. Each time I use this dell Inspiron 15-3000, it runs super slow and get freeze. I wonder why a brand name like Dell produced such products like that in markets.

I have the same issue, New Dell lap top, too slow to use since day 1. It was updated to widiws 10, and no sign of improvement. Actually it became even  more slower.  Factory reset.... doesn't help either. Literally the laptop never been useful. It is very very slow to browse, or open a file. It would be faster to use my phone or drive 1 mile away to  library and use their PCs.

If the system isn't working at the screen level, and the USB ports are not working -- that's a job for either  Best Buy or Dell to resolve under warranty.

If you're looking to turn this into any level of gaming notebook -- that's not going to happen no matter what you throw at it.  Any notebook that's truly capable of gaming is going to start at bare minimum $1,000 and anything capable of more than casual gaming -- add 50%  to that.
