There is a spade like adapter on the old drive. you need to remove it, very carefully, and put it on the new drive. That adapter is what connects the hard drive to the motherboard.
Spade-like adapter? I'm holding the old one in my hand right now and can't see anything at all that might resemble a spade. You're talking "shovel-like", right?
Is it supposed to be near where the pins are, or somewhere else?
Wait! I just now figured out what you were talking about! I was able to finally get that adapter off and got it onto my new HD. To tell you the truth, I had my serious doubts as to whether this would help or not (can you tell I'm stressed?), but it's formatting my new HD as I write this!!! Tears nearly came to my eyes as I saw those magic words!!! :-)
I can't thank you enough, Ed. I'll try not to bother you any more (at least not tonight).

Wait! I just now figured out what you were talking about! I was able to finally get that adapter off and got it onto my new HD.
