Onboard Graphic Card Intel 730 with Dell Inspiron 3910

Hi All,

I experienced a rather strange problem but I solved it.

I wonder if any other person have faced the same. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 3910 with 512 SSD and onboard Intel UHD 730 graphic Card.

When surfing the internet or just being inactive on the desktop the whole system freezes. Can't do anything.

I have the machine now for 2 weeks and according to the log I've done already more than 65 hard reset. After looking at the Intel UHD 730 card properties it's telling me that 128 MB is dedicated to the Card memory and 3712 MB shared. The 128 MB worried me, so I put in my old car AMD ASUS 5450 silent. Installed the drivers of W10 (no drivers for W11 available). Now my dedicated card memory is 1024MB. I noticed my memory stays now under 53% and no more freeze of the entire system.

Am I correct to say that the intel UHD 730 performance is not complying with the W11 and system requirements?

I'm asking this question just because there are no updates available anymore for the AMD ASUS card.

Many Thanks

Dell offers Win 11 drivers for Intel UHD730 Graphics for the Inspiron 3910 so it complies with Win 11 requirements.

Why are you worrying about 128 MB of RAM dedicated to UHD 730 Graphics? You didn't mention how much total system RAM you have in this PC, but even if you have only 4 GB total RAM installed, 128 MB is less than 4% of the total

The UHD Graphics is sharing 3.712 GB of total RAM so if your system has 4 GB or 8 GB total, that might be an issue.

Your add-in card probably has it's own RAM, so doesn't need to share as much system RAM, and that might explain why it's not freezing.

Are all your drivers and firmware up-to-date? You can run SupportAssist which Dell installed on this PC to see if there are any updates needed. Otherwise, go to the Support site and enter your Service Tag (Don't post it here.) and manually check to make sure all your drivers are current.

What did Dell Support say when you reported the problems with the new computer? That should have been your first contact. This is a user to user forum.

Note that the integrated Intel video doesn't work with a video card installed. Check Device Manager to see if the old card is even recognized. All video connections should be to the card, not to the integrated ports. Consider buying a better compatible video card.

thanks Ron,

Very happy with your answer. My RAM is 8GB so there could be the problem. All my drivers are up-to-date. This was the first thing I checked. I'll buy additional RAM to have this issue solved.

Many Thanks

Be careful about buying RAM for the Inspiron 3910. There are several threads about RAM that does or does not work in this PC model. So be sure to read those before you order anything.

BTW: How much "junk" is running in the background? You might want to disable as much of that as you can, and see how things go using UHD 730, without your add-in card, to see if you really need extra RAM.

If Dell's SupportAssist, Dell Update, Dell Digital Delivery, and Smartbyte are loading automatically at boot, you may want to disable them so they won't load. None of them is essential for running your PC.

And if you're using McAfee Antiviral which Dell probably installed, you could disable that too and switch to using Windows Security (aka: Windows Defender) which is free and already built into Windows. It uses fewer PC resources than McAfee.  Note: If you want to uninstall McAfee, instead of just disabling it and switching, be sure to register McAfee at their site first, so you can reinstall it again for free for balance of the subscription. You should use their uninstall methods.

@JohanW1Did you ever find a solution for this issue or did you end up using an add-on video card?
