Install new drive as slave or master?

Does it make a difference which drive as the master and which one as slave?   What I mean is if you have an existing drive, but purchase a newer one which is supposedly faster, should the faster one be installed as the master?   In my specific case, I have a Dell4600 with a 40GB WD hard drive. I am planning on installing a second 120 GB WD hard drive which has 8 meg buffer. Reading some articles, it appears the 8 meg buffer makes reads/writes faster. I am planning to use the second drive to store all my video data. Now, my video editing program is on the current drive. However, I plan to store the data on the new drive, first because it has more space but more importantly because of the 8 meg buffer supposedly speeding up writes and reads.   What is the right thing to do here? Should I just install the new one as slave? Would it still give me the benefits of the speeded up reads/writes for my video editing? Or should I clone my existing drive on the new one so that it becomes the master and then make another partition on the new drive for the video data?   Thanks.

For what you are wanting to do, I would just install the 160 as slave and use for storage . . set your video processor to store the working file on the new one with the faster cache. wrs
