this is most dissapointing, i just complained because my philips dvd burner had a dell "known" problem and they sent me the NEC ND-6100A , so far its working fine though, is this a problem that a lot of them have off the bat, or does it develop over time after a couple burns? Also can mine burn dual layer dvd's? and i can't find any firmware to burn on 8x media, does anyone know where to find it?
yeah, you can burn DL dvd's, only on DVD+R media though. (you can Do a google search for "the dangerous brothers", they have a windows based firmware flasher that will install the 6500's firmware on your 6100. Then you can burn to both + and - R media, i think this voids your warranty though) Try to copy a cd (audio) with something like nero or roxio and ill bet you will have the same problem. Play it back on a good stereo (not your computer) and it will sound terrible. PLease DELL do something about this!!!!!
I happens like clockwork when copying cd's, and is only audible on stereos other than the computer that burned it. Mine didn't do it at first, but after a while it did, what programs are you using????

DELL, surely someone that works for you has the courage to at least reply and give some input.....well maybe not.....
these forums are for customer to customer help and support - not a way to contact dell directly. the moderators are here for a single purpose - to moderate the discussions not to jump into the middle of them. unfortunately i think your only course of action is to contact customer care or try back with technical support.
I understand that, I am simply trying to stir the pot a bit, maybe get others that have this problem to take action as I am, and believe me I have talked to both customer care and tech support PLENTY of times regarding this problem.
does anyone have the factory firmware for the nec 6100a for the 700m? if possiable i would like to it, thanks a bunch, and i haven't notice any problems with my nec drive as of yet.

Damne i have the same problem. The Audio CD's dont play in any of the cars correctly. I had teh dealer replace teh CD changers in the C55, TL, and Accord. Yet the CD's burned in this drive play fine at first and then just get distorted. And the TL has 5.1 w/ DTS and DVD-Audio so its a world class sound system.
Anyone have part numbers for the new replacement drive????
i burned 2 cd's the other day and some of the tracks wont play in one player and some of the tracks wont play with another player and all of the tracks play in another player, normally all 3 are very accepting of burned cd's .... this was with tdk media
I also have this same problem!! called customer care (tec support) they told me to uninstall the drive and re-install it and try to burn with windows player??? this did not work!!! oh ya get this they told me that this was not a known issue... YA RIGHT!!!! anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?
the at dell wont give us the part number for the new drive or I would get it and then have dell reimburse me for it. Im gonna clain my computer broken next month through complete care and see what the heck happens.
You are definately not the only person with this problem....
I had the problem with copying audio CDs.... After more than three months, unresolved jumping on this forum and reducing recording speed to 8x worked.
Mind you - Dell 'customer care' in the mean time have made me rebuild the PC from scratch on several occassions, they tried replacing the drive (after I got very annoyed ) and there previous instruction was to update the BIOS but as that resulted in a "system unsupported message" (think they even sent me the wrong link) their last instruction was to rebuild again to resolve an associated blue screen. Yeah right! The BIOS update was too much work for them so why not get me to rebuild the laptop again to save them some time! I bought this thing to save me time.

What upgraded firmware??? The dangerous brothers' version makes no difference, is there another upgraded firmware I am unaware of?
Does anyone has a 700m with the "new" drive (dvd+/-rw, not just dvd+rw), I sure would like apart or model number off that drive...
