Have you tried uninstalling the CD-ROM from Device Manager, then re-booting, may be a driver issue? I have some info on "Insert Disc" in Section 6-3, article 26 of the CD/RW link. Some Members have had good luck with Windows XP Restore Feature, roll the system back to before the problem started.
