This might be a dumb question about DVD-ROM drives...

Question

I recently acquired a new Dell Dimension 8300.  It came with two CD drives, one of which is a 16x DVD-ROM drive. I know virtually nothing about DVD players.  The model I have is JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166.  Is this drive capable of writing DVDs?  The system came with absolutely no documentation about the hardware devices. I've been searching the net to see if I can even find descriptions of the different types of DVD devices, but with no luck. Also, can anyone provide a link that would help me to understand DVD technology? Carl Boone.

DVD-ROM drives only play dvd's you need a DVD-RW drive to record dvd's.
