Hi Kuchdut,

Ok, just a side note: the NEC 2100a does not support writing to the DVD-R or DVD-RW media.
I would suggest you consider uninstalling and reinstalling the burning software, then test the drive again.

Happy New Year!

Forgive my ignorance...but does the 2100a write to any media? you state that it won't write the the DVD-xx but I have tried the DVD+R (plus vs. minus sign), does that matter? I found a site that showed the 2100 was supposed to be able to write to DVD+ media, and I can't...

Hi Kuchdut,

Your drive will write to the following media:
DVD+R | DVD+RW | CD-R | CD-RW |
Here is your User Guide
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/p64593/en/index.htm

Dell does a firmware update for this drive to address some read / write issuees.
Hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, click on the Downloads, enter information for your system and follow the links to "Removable Media Storage Devices", the 2100 is listed there. Some Members have had good luck it.

Best Regards
