Inspiron 8100 compatible with Seagate HD?

Question

I bought Seagate HD ST94811A 40GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache from Dell.com for my inspiron 8100.  However when I installed that HD and started the computer it said no hard drive is detected.  Any idea?  I tried to tighten the screws and it didn't help.    Do you have any suggestion or similar experience?  Did I get the wrong HD?   Thanks for your help!

You may have overlooked the adapter on the connector that needs to be transferred from the old drive to the new one?   GM

John advised me on this a couple of years ago when I had to replace the drive in my I8100, and ran into the same problem. Nice picture, John!   GM

Actually it is from BayWolf's site - I believe he actually took it documenting the changeout of the hdd in an 8000 (virtually the same as the 8100).
