So you installed the 7K60 and you installed the OS on the drive, correct???? But did you load the chipset drivers.

If you did then you either have a bad 7K60 or you are doing something wrong. I installed a 7K40 (the 40GB version of the 7K60) in a Dell C610 with 1.2 GHz P3 CPU and 512 MB RAM and it is faster than my i8200 with 2.4GHz P4 1GB RAM and a Seagate 40GB 5400RPM HDD.

Thanks for the fast reply Ed.The answer to your questions are yes. I did install the OS and the chipset drivers! I did a fresh install twice to make sure that I didn't make a mistake. The second time was with a Dell Tech, but it didn't make a difference, it still had poor performance! Thanks for your time and your reply was greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the reply bacillus.  I checked and it is still in udma5.  I guess I will send it back and try another one.  Thanks for your time and your reply was greatly appreciated.

you could try downloading the Feature Tool (v1.96) from http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

also check that the hdd's write cache is enabled under properties of the hdd in device manager.

On the same page as the Feature tool is another Download called the Drive Fitness Test. Download and run that, as Hitachi will probably ask if you have when you contact them.

Thanks for the reply leduke30. I tried to do a bootable cd from that site, but I was unable to open it up. Thanks again for your time.
