My 600M's HDD makes a noise, too. It is really high-pitched and doesn't happen all the time. Is this normal? I just got mine December 22, and it's a refurbished unit factory-direct from Dell.

Who made your HDD? My 600m 60GB 4200RPM HDD was made by Toshiba and is very quite. I've had it a couple of weeks and it too is from the Dell Outlet Online Store.
My only complaint is a brown scorched-looking area on the LCD, just above and to the right of DELL (above the power switch). My guess is that someone left the monitor on for too long and that portion of the screen was burned. If I hold my finger next to DELL, it gets quite hot. Tech support has been of no help with this issue.
I suggest you go up the food chain with tech support regarding the monitor. There is no discoloration on my display, and though the Dell logo area is slightly warmer than the rest of the display's edge, it certainly not hot.

Have you looked at all the downloads available for the 600M here?

I have installed several on my 600m.
I just noticed on that page is a section for auto downloads in beta test.
