I am not positive that this is the same issue, but if indexing is enabled for the DVD drive, it can cause similar symptoms. Try downloading and installing the patch at the link provided below, this will turn off the drive indexing for the D: drive and may help.
I've had exactly the same problem as Crackles with my DVD drive - which is very frustrating - I tried eveything I could (firmware upgrade /reseting PC bios/ changing cable select etc) but assumed it must be a weird fault with the drive - so I had given up trying to fix it and was living with the problem.
BUT the download you recomended seems to have fixed it!!! thankyou :-)))))
Stephen, I downloaded and ran this update but still no luck. I've made sure the Auto Run is enabled by checking the Properties on the D drive. Even used the Tweak UI for XP but nothing seems to work. Do you have any other suggestions? Thansk for the help.
