Hi Ibbe,

Lets start will some standard steps; Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to section 15, article 1; section 20, article 3; Section 12, article 10.
If none of this helps, open the case and re-seat the Flat Gray IDE cable going from the motherboard to the back of each drive.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

I am sorry Ibbe, but please humor me for just a minute because I want to be sure, are you saying that you tried all the articles I listed and none of them helped?
If so, then you can try Winodws Xp Restore Feature, same CD/RW link in my post, Section 100, article 17. You next step would be to contact Dell by phone and trouble shoot the problem with the Tech

Best Regards
