I am afraid my friend you need to supply just a tad more information. What Dell do you have, the OS, name / model of the DVD/RW, the burning software you are trying to use, exactly have format is the "movie", etc....
Best Regards

Your drive is most likely what is called a Combo drive, A DVD-ROM (read-only)& CD/RW drive, therefor you cannot burn a DVD, sorry.

A CD/RW drive will not burn a DVD, A combo DVD/CD/RW will read DVD`s and burn CD-R/RW media. A DVD+/-R/RW drive will burn CR-R & CD-RW media, DVD+R / DVD+RW & DVD-R & DVD-RW media.
If you can list the model of your drives, we can confirm.
Best Regards

PC is new and its a dell 4600i not sure of the model but according to my invoice its a 16x dvd rom and 48x cdrw. Where can I find the exact name of the device?
.... Is this discussion about Movie DVD's. Since I know I can burn cd's by copy to the e drive. Also, where can I find what software is actually writing to the cd? This pc came with sonic record now, but when I open it up it says there is no compatible recordable device could be found on your system
