Power Supply Problems
I hope Dell employees can read this as I work all day, and I don't have good reception on my phone at home to go through troubleshooting on the phone...
My sister's Inspiron 600m laptop has been having problems and I was wondering if I could get some service done on it under CompleteCare.
I think the problem stems from her AC adapter failing. The wire became frayed where the wire comes out of the brick. This caused shorting, and after a while the brick stopped working completely. She needs her laptop for school, so I let her take my power adaptor for my 300m, and I just used my roommate's adaptor to charge my laptop when my battery ran down. So that's the first issue; I was wondering if the power adaptor is covered under CompleteCare.
The second issue is one that I can't reproduce consistently. She said she's been having problems getting the computer to turn on. I've tried to diagnose the problem over the phone, but between her layman-speak, and having never seen this problem before, I didn't know what she was talking about. She's in her finals week at law school right now and really needed a reliable laptop, and last weekend, it took her an hour of attempts to get the computer to finally boot up. She backed up the files she needed, and then gave me a call, asking to borrow my laptop for her finals, and she came over and swapped computers.
Now that I have the laptop, I was only able to reproduce the problem once, when I first tried to power it up. I'd click the power button, and the 3 LEDs next to the power button would blink rapidly, along with a very slight clicking sound, for about 3 seconds, then it would stop, and the computer would fail to power up. It did this 3 or 4 times, and on the 5th try, it powered up. I've powered the computer on twice since, and it powered up with no problems. So that's the second issue; I think the power supply (or something along those lines) in the laptop is failing, maybe caused by the shorting AC adaptor.
Oh, one other issue; she needs the keyboard replaced. Only 12 letters still remain, and the other keys are all rubbed off, especially the 'E', 'T', and 'A' keys, which have some pretty bad divots. I guess law students type a LOT.
If someone can help me out, please let me know. I've been tasked to fix the computer, and if this is anything like the AC adaptor I let her borrow, I pretty much don't get my laptop back until this thing is fixed. lol

I forgot to mention that I checked the CompleteCare status on the laptop and it has 136 days remaining as of today.
