Dell Precision 5480 Ubuntu 24.04 Webcam not working
Hi all,
this is a well known problem for all Dell PC mounting a specific Intel webcam -- the webcam is not recognised by the system and hence does not work. At all. In no softwaere etc; and of cours,e the kernel does not "see" it.
There are different solutions floating around, that turn around this one:
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000203830/webcam-is-not-detected-on-xps-13-plus-9320-laptops-running-ubuntu-22-04
and this one:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oem-solutions-group/intel-ipu6sudo apt install linux-modules-ipu6-generic-hwe-22.04 linux-modules-ivsc-generic-hwe-22.04sudo apt install libcamhal-ipu6ep0sudo reboot
Now, the problem is that the second one (that used to do the trick on my old 5470) is not working on my 5480; and that the first one depends on a repository that has not yet be ported to Noble (24.04)
The result is that while the camera worked fine out of the box (with Ubuntu 22.04) after upgrading to 24.04 it does not work any more.
Is there a way out? Are there news on when the repo from solution (1) will be ported to 24.04?
Thanks
