Formatting disks

Using an Inspiron 531 with windows vista home premium +sp1. recently purchased a box of imation

DVD-RW disks 120 mins 4.7GB 4 x 10.  On trying to format these the format appears to start all right but approx. two minutes later comes up with the message "Windows cannot complete the format".  This only happens with Imation disks but not with the Verbatim disks I normally use.  Can anyone throw any light on the subject.  Thanks in anticipation.

Hi, Ron:

Please get DVD Identifier (link in my signature) and with an Imation DVD disc in the drive, determine what media these are. (Suffice it to say "Imation" is just the label.)

I'm not a big fan of Imation, or any other label that comprises 10-15 different manufacturers of various levels of quality.

Osprey

Have downloaded Identifier as suggested.  Disc shows no manufacturer and comes up as DVD-R  insted of as marked on box DVD-rw.  Looks like I have bought a faulty box.

many thanks
