Harddrive replacement

Question

The hard drive in my PC stopped working so I contacted Dell and had them send me a new one.  I put the drive into my computer and it works fine.    My problem is that I wanted to put my old drive into my computer as a slave (?) so that I could move my personal data off the old (bad) drive onto the new (good) drive.  After I get it cabled into the computer (on port 1 because the new drive is on port 0) the hard drive doesnt show up in the BIOS.    Just as a note, before I removed the old (bad) hard drive I was able to boot from a floppy and see the directory on the drive.  How do I get it reconized so I can retreive my data from the drive?   Thanks for any help you can give me.

Make sure it's cabled properly and you have enabled the drive in BIOS setup (it won't be enabled by default). If it still doesn't show up, it's probably too far gone for recovery.
