On a computer with installed Dell Encryption Enterprise Policy Based Encryption and SDE, the Windows Credentials Manager stops working with the below error message:

The issue disappears, after removing Dell Encryption Enterprise Policy Based Encryption and decrypting the computer.

While reproducing the issue, it is possible to see PATH NOT FOUND for the file policy.vpol for the connected user in the Process Monitor logs:

To fix the issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Connect to the Dell Security Management Server.
  2. Go to Populations -> Enterprise -> Policy-Based Encryption -> SDE Encryption Rules.
  3. Scroll to the end of the list and add the exclusion below and click Save:
-^%ENV:USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Vault

  1. Go to Management-> Commit and click Commit Policies to commit the policy changes.
