Prerequisites
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Remove the system cover.
Remove the memory riser.
WARNING: The memory modules are hot to touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow the memory modules to cool before handling them. Handle the memory modules by the card edges and avoid touching the components or metallic contacts on the memory module.
CAUTION: To ensure proper system cooling, memory module blanks must be installed in any memory socket that is not occupied. Remove memory module blanks only if you intend to install memory modules in those sockets.
Removing memory modules from the memory riser:
To open the memory riser, open the flip out brackets on the memory riser.
Locate the appropriate memory module socket.
To release the memory module from the socket, simultaneously press the ejectors on both ends of the memory module socket.
NOTE: Handle each memory module only by the card edges, making sure not to touch the middle of the memory module or metallic contacts.
Lift the memory module away from the system.
If you are removing a memory module permanently, install a memory module blank.
NOTE: The procedure for removing and installing a memory module blank is identical to removing and installing a memory module.
Install the memory riser.
Install the system cover.
Place the system upright on a flat, stable surface.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Power on the attached peripherals and then power on the system.
