In this video, we’ll show you how to manage roles, specifically how to add, edit and delete custom roles to control user access more effectively. A custom role is a user defined role that allows administrators to assign specific privileges to users. This enables granular control over what features each user can access within OpenManage Enterprise.
By creating custom roles, you can tailor access based on job responsibilities, ensuring users only see and interact with what they need. Let's start by navigating to the role section. Go to Application Settings, then Users and click on Roles. To add a new custom role, click Add and enter the role details. Enter a role name up to 32 characters and a description up to 63 characters. Then select the privileges you want this role to have.
To learn more about the privileges, refer to the User's Guide. Click Finish and the system will validate the role. Once successful, your new role will appear in the list. By default, all the roles are assigned report, run, and view privileges. These roles are now available when creating or modifying users.
To edit a role, select a custom role and click edit. Make your changes and click Finish. When prompted, click Continue. The updated role will be saved and displayed. Note: Only custom rules can be edited, while default roles cannot. To delete a role in OpenManage Enterprise, first ensure no users are assigned to the role. Select the role you wish to delete and click Delete.
If no users are assigned to this role, a confirmation prompt will appear. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. If users are still assigned to the role you proceed to delete, you'll get an error. Reassign the user to another role before proceeding with the deletion.
To reassign users, click Users. Select the username from the list and click Edit. In the User Role field, identify a current role assigned to the user. Use the dropdown to reassign the user to another role. Click Finish to save the changes.
